Matt Cooper's Big Week

Finally some good news for the Hawaii Baseball team!

This news is a bit dated, but a belated congratulations to UH pitcher Matt Cooper who last week was named Big West Conference Pitcher of the Week. This honor is the first for any UH baseball player since we joined the new conference.

For the year Cooper has been fairly spectacular (despite what his mediocre win-loss record might suggest at first glance.) He was lights out through the first three games (0, 0 and 0.73 ERA through the first three) then bounced up for the next two (2.6 and 2.89) before settling down at 1.95 and now at 1.53. His game against Gonzaga was particular impressive given that it was his first complete game and he did not get a lot of run support (UH won 2-0.) Can he keep this up? I hope so! (he's riding a 16 scoreless inning streak.) The Big West is one of the strongest baseball conferences in the country so if UH is going to have a shot at being competitive they're going to need to get everything out of their pitching staff that they can.

The next game between these two teams is today at 6:35 PM HST (being broadcast on the radio only). If you're stuck at home, you can watch the final in the series against UCSB tomorrow at 1 PM HST on OC16 or on the radio at 1420 AM (or better yet, you can head down to the stadium for an Easter Sunday baseball game.)
