Hawaii recruit offer spotlight: Katy (TX) Linebacker Breydon Boyd

WarriorSportsNetwork is spotlighting a new recruit that has been offered by Hawaii Head Coach Nick Rolovich's staff every weekday. Today's spotlight features linebacker Breydon Boyd of Texas.

The Target

Primary Recruiter

Linebackers Coach Sean Duggan

Breydon Boyd landed an offer from Mountain West rival Fresno State before his junior year even began, but his recruitment has picked up in a major way in recent months. He now has over 10 offers, including one from Hawaii. Boyd is a three-star middle linebacker prospect from Texas power Katy High School.

Boyd has upside in virtually every category coaches look for in an inside linebacker. He is a solid 6-foot-4 and 215 lbs, is versatile and plays with a high motor.

The Texas recruit has double digit offers, but plans to unofficially visit Hawaii this summer. Hawaii Head Coach Nick Rolovich and staff will be hopeful to make an impression on the impressive talent.

Expert Opinion

Breydon Boyd is a physical, big-framed linebacker who best projects to a 3-4 inside/4-3 middle linebacker position at the FBS level. Great height and length suggest that he possesses high frame potential with ample space to add good bulk. Excellent downhill player who thrives against the run. Strong enough to engage and shed blockers to make plays on the ball. Also a good A-gap blitzer. Pass-rushing instincts and frame potential suggest that Boyd could also be an intriguing 3-4 outside linebacker in the right situation.

Solid tackler. Can deliver a big hit but also consistently sound as a wrap-and-drag tackler. Boyd can play at the P5 level and offer list should reflect that in the end. Can improve pass coverage ability, but possesses requisite athleticism to be solid in all facets of linebacker duties. Overall a well-rounded, physical, high-motor player.

“I know it’s a beautiful place, beautiful beaches,” Boyd told WSN. “To be honest, I’ve never really looked at their football program. I don’t know much about it and that’s why I’m going up there. I’m going there this summer to check it out because I really don’t know much about what they run and how their coaches are. I’m looking forward to finding out."
