Football: Chang Suspended for Season Opener

The NCAA suspends quarterback Timmy Chang one game for not meeting the WAC six-crdit rule last fall.

The UH football team will be without the services of quarterback Timmy Chang for the season opener against Appalachian State next Saturday evening.

Chang has been suspended one game by the NCAA because he did not meet the WAC six credit rule last fall.

Chang would have been ruled ineligible for last years Hawaii Bowl if UH had had certified its players, but the University felt that they didn't have enough time between the end of the fall semester on Dec. 20th and the Christmas day bowl game.

UH was fined 5,000 dollars and received a public reprimand from the Western Athletic Conference.

According to head coach June Jones, Chang received extensions for his unfinished work and completed them, but not before Dec. 25th.

Backup Senior Jason Whieldon will get the start against the Mountaineers in the season opener.
