Kahuku defensive lineman Samson Reed is up to six scholarship offers, including Hawaii. The others include BYU, Washington State, Fresno State, San Diego State and UNLV. Reed is a three-star recruit, standing at 6-foot-3 and 240 pounds."
“A lot of (schools) are looking at me as a three-technique to play against the tackles,” Reed said. “I feel like I’m a strong end. I’m able to get off the ball. I have a good motor and great hands.
Reed described the moment he received his offer from UH as “great because my dad went there. I was happy and he explained the school.”
Reed’s father is former UH player Tanoai Reed - who is now Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s stunt double.
Samson gets to do some traveling while his dad is on set, and check out mainland schools in the process, but Hawaii is still home. Reed said that the football program, academics, and a home feeling are his priorities in the college he picks.
“I think it’s a good option,” Reed said of UH. “Something I can always go to and it’s already home, but I want to keep my option open... They’ve been doing good. They’ve been changing it a lot and I think they are going to do good.”
Reed has visited UH multiple times.
“I missed the junior day, but I was able to make it a couple days later to campus and take a visit. I’ve been there many times for camps and school visits. It’s nice.”
