Baseball: WAC honors Inouye

Hawaii catcher Matt Inouye has been named this week's WAC Player of the Week for his efforts against HPU and UH-Hilo.

DENVER - Hawai`i catcher Matthew Inouye and Rice right-handed pitcher Wade Townsend have been named the Western Athletic Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for February 16-22.

Inouye, a sophomore from Honolulu (Mid-Pacific Institute), was 9-for-15 (.600) with nine RBI and four runs scored in four wins for the Rainbows last week. Inouye had three three-RBI games and added two doubles to up his WAC-leading total to eight on the season. In Saturday's 15-3 win over Hawai `i-Hilo, Inouye was 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI.

The Rainbow catcher is leading the team with a .439 batting average on the season, while leading the conference with eight doubles and 16 RBI.

It is Inouye's first career WAC Player of the Week award.
