Bolla to be named new Wahine basketball coach

Apparently the search for a new head women's basketball coach at the University of Hawaii has been decided

According to several highly reliable sources, the University of Hawaii has chosen former UNLV women's head basketball coach Jim Bolla to replace Vince Goo, who retired after this past season.

University of Hawaii spokesperson Lois Manin said the University has "no comment" on whether or not Bolla has been offered or accepted the job.

Bolla came to UNLV in 1981 as an assistant coach with the women's program. The next year he became co-head coach with his then-wife Sheila Strike. Bolla took over the sole position of head coach in 1988.

In 14 seasons, Bolla went 300 and 120. He has the most victories of any UNLV women's basketball coach.

Bolla was reassigned within the UNLV athletic department after the 1995-96 season in which the Lady Rebels went 4 and 21. He was the director of athletic development from 1996 till 2000, when his contract wasn't renewed. Since then, he's developed a bar-b-q business in the Las Vegas valley.

Bolla's name is expected to be submitted later this month to the UH Board of Regents for approval.
