HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i men's volleyball team shook off the cobwebs then shook the Tigers of Pacific, winning the exhibition match in four games Wednesday night at the Stan Sheriff Center. Pacific came out fired up and rode adrenaline to a 30-24 win in game one. The Tigers hit a whopping .333 in that first game compared to UH's .133. UH then matched back-to-back 30-25 wins in games two and three before closing it out in game four, 30-28. Hawai`i was led by Matt Bender who put down 16 kills while hitting a scorching .387. Newcomer Jacob Schkud had a big night hitting .500 with 11 kills. The Tigers were led by outside hitter Brian Zodrow who hammered down a match-high 22 kills while hitting at a .298 clip. Local boy Bryson Metz (Aiea, Oahu/Kamehameha Schools), posted 11 kills with a .316 average. This is the first match of four straight exhibition interisland matches between the two Mountain Pacific Sports Federation teams. The two teams meet tomorrow on the Big Island with a 7:15 p.m. match at the University of Hawai`i-Hilo Gymnasium. The final two matches are on Molokai (Nov. 19) and Kauai (Nov. 20).
