Wahine Road Trip Could Be Rough Ride
UH faces second-place SMU (12-2, 3-1 WAC) on Thursday before taking on conference leader Louisiana Tech (8-4, 4-0 WAC) on Saturday. In its first road game of the season UH lost at San Jose State 54-49 in overtime. The loss put the Rainbow Wahine in a tie for seventh in the WAC standings with a 1-2 mark. UH will look to avoid consecutive losses when they face an SMU squad coming off just their second loss of the season. The Mustangs were upset at Nevada, 63-62, on January 8. The Rainbow Wahine will face an impact freshman post player for the second straight game in Janielle Dodds, who leads SMU in scoring and rebounding. This will be Hawaii's last trip to Dallas as a WAC rival as SMU leaves for Conference USA next season. UH concludes its trip at Louisiana Tech and will look to shake its hex versus a Lady Techster squad it has yet to beat in 13 meetings all-time. Hawaii in the WAC: Hawaii is in its ninth season in the Western Athletic Conference and is 87-44 (.664) all-time in the regular season. UH is 37-28 (.569) in WAC road games. Scouting SMU: The Mustangs suffered just their second loss of the season when they were upset 63-62 by Nevada on January 8...SMU is now 12-2 overall and in second place in the WAC with a 3-1 mark...freshman post player Janelle Dodds leads the team in both scoring (14.9 ppg) and rebounding (8.9 rpg)...SMU is undefeated at home so far this season at 9-0... they have won comfortably with a +13.0 scoring margin. Louisiana Tech is 8-4 overall and earlier fell out of the Top 25 for the first time in more than 250 weeks...last week the Lady Techsters won a pair of road games at Nevada (69-52) and Fresno State (80-70)...La Tech is 4-2 at home this year with losses to Illinois and Tennessee...point guard Tasha Crain leads the team with 16.8 ppg and 3.8 apg...preseason WAC Player of the Year Erica Taylor has yet to suit up for the team. Series History: Louisiana Tech is the only team in the WAC Hawaii has not beaten with 13 straight losses, including eight as WAC foes. The Rainbow Wahine are 0-3 all-time in Ruston.
