Wahine Soccer: Look to rebound in OHANA Shootout

Injury plaqued soccer team hopes to get back on the winning track.

After dropping three of its last four matches by just a single goal, the University of Hawaii women's soccer team is raring to go in this weekend's OHANA Hotels & Resorts Shootout, which includes Long Island and Long Beach State.

After going 1-0-1 to open the year, the Rainbow Wahine soccer squad has been sent reeling by inopportune injuries over the past few weeks. The last four matches have been tough on the Wahine and coach Pinsoom Tenzing, who has had to shuffle his lineup dramatically.

With a few starters still inactive due to injuries, and some still hampered by aches and pains, the Rainbow Wahine will take-on Long Island on Thursday and Long Beach State on Monday. Long Island and Long Beach State will meet on Saturday night.

Hawaii will look to strikers Arlene Devitt, Natasha Kai and Carmen Calpo to provide the offensive punch once again. Devitt and Kai are tied for the team lead in points (7) and goals (3), while Calpo tops all Wahine in assists (3).

Last weekend, the Wahine incurred a 3-2 loss to San Francisco and a 2-0 setback to fifth-ranked UCLA in the Outrigger Hotels & Resorts Soccer Classic. Four Wahine-Devitt, Mia Moe, Krystalynn Ontai, and Jessica Uecker-were voted all-tournament.

All of this weekend's action will be going on at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium. Matches on Thursday and Saturday will begin at 7:00 p.m., while Monday's Hawaii-Long Beach State match will kick-off at 5:00 p.m.
