Soccer: Third P.O.W. award for Kai

Freshman sensation wins WAC Offensive Player of the Week award for third time this season.

HONOLULU - Rainbow Wahine freshman sensation Natasha Kai enjoyed another fine week, posting 10 offensive points on five goals in Hawai`i's wins over league rivals Boise State and Nevada to earn her third Western Athletic Conference Offensive Soccer Player of the Week honor today.

Kai, a product of Kahuku High School on Oahu's North Shore, began her week by recording her second hat trick of the season, netting three goals in Hawai`i's 5-1 win over Boise State to tie her school record for goals in a match. In that contest Kai ripped-off 13 shots, one short of her school and WAC record for shot attempts in a match.

Two nights later Kai responded with two more goals in her team's 5-0 victory over
Nevada. With her scores against the Wolfpack, Kai set new Hawai`i season records for points (31) and goals (14), and tied the program mark for season game-winning goals (4). Kai recorded the game-winner in both of the Rainbow Wahine's contests this week.

On the season Kai leads the team in a number of statistical categories and has already captured eight school records, with two road matches at
Fresno State and San Jose State still looming.

Kai's honor is the fifth for
Hawai`i this season. Besides Kai's awards this year, Rainbow Wahine defender Jessica Uecker and keeper Mahie Atay have also been honored by the conference
