Volleyball: Game Notes for Nevada and Boise St.

Hawaii faces Nevada and Boise State for the second time in a week.

 

 

GAME NOTES

 

 

HAWAII- Ranked number one in the USA Today/AVCA coaches poll....First time since 1996....21-0 overall and 9-0 in the WAC....Have won a school record 48 games in a row....Have won 67 overall conference matches....Defeated Nevada last Friday in Reno, 30-25, 30-21,30-20 and Boise State last Saturday in Boise, 30-15, 30-14, 30-18....MB Karin Lundquist tore the ACL in her left knee in Friday's win, but is expect to see playing time....RS Nohea Tano is expected to return after sitting out the last two weeks with a sprained ankle....Team is ranked in several nationally statistical categories....First in hitting percentage(.342)....First in kills per game(18.31)....First in assist per game(16.86)....LS Kim Willoughby is third nationally in kills per game (6.43), LS Lily Kahumoku is 13th at 5.28....Have drawn 120,511 fans for the first 17 home matches....Dave Shoji is nine wins away from 800 for his career.

 

 

 

NEVADA- 18-5 overall record and 7-3 in the WAC....Lost at San Jose State Sunday after Friday's home loss to the Wahine....Are 1-13 all time against Hawaii....Lone win came back in 1992....MB Michelle More leads the team with 5.53 kills per game and leads the conference in hitting percentage at .390....Setter Jill Couwenhoven leads the conference with 13.45 assist per game....Advanced to the NCAA tournament last season....Head Coach Devan Scruggs is one win shy of 100 for her career....Host school for the 2002 WAC Tournament.

 

 

BOISE ST.- 1-20 overall and 0-9 in conference....Only win came against Eastern Kentucky....Haven't played a match since last Saturday's home loss to the Wahine....Have won only seven games all season....Scott Sandel is in his first season as head coach....Have lost all three meetings with Hawaii....Megan Tranter leads the team in kills per game(3.27)....Face Fresno State on Thursday before heading to Hawaii.
