Volleyball: Wahine handle Spartans in Three

Hawaii finishes an unbeaten conference regular season with a easy three game win over San Jose State.

San Jose- After being taken to a fifth game the night before at Fresno State, the third ranked University of Hawaii Wahine volleyball team disposed of host San Jose State in straight games Saturday evening at the Events Center.


Hawaii improved to 25-1 overall and finished the conference season undefeated at 13-0 with an easy 30-18, 30-19, 30-17 win over the Spartans in front of a school record crowd of 1, 749.


Kim Willoughby had 19 kills and 11 digs and Lily Kahumoku added 16 kills and 10 digs of her own to lead the Wahine to victory.


Fran Pozzi had 10 kills for the Spartans.


Hawaii thoroughly dominated the match from start to finish, hitting for a .348 percentage to San Jose State's .024. Lauren Duggins led the block party for UH with eighth block assist as Hawai out blocked San Jose State 14-4.


The Wahine, the conference's number one seed, will begin conference tournament play Friday at Reno against eighth seed Louisiana Tech.
