Mens Basketball: English named WAC P.O.W.

Carl English is named the WAC Player of the Week for leading Hawaii to victories over SMU and Louisiana Tech.

DENVERHawaii guard Carl English has been named the Western Athletic Conference men's basketball player of the week for January 6-12.

English averaged 22.0 points and 9.5 rebounds (both WAC highs for the week) as
Hawaii extended its home winning streak to 21 games with victories over SMU and Louisiana Tech. He scored a team-high 19 points versus SMU and added 25 points and 12 rebounds against Louisiana Tech. He scored 21 points against the Bulldogs in the second half and was 10-of-13 from the free throw line in that game.

It was English's second ever WAC player of the week award and first for a Hawai‘i player this season.

The other nominations were senior forward Antonio Meeking, Louisiana Tech; junior guard Garry Hill-Thomas,
Nevada; senior guard Omar-Seli Mance, Rice; senior guard/forward Quinton Ross, SMU; and senior forward Marqus Ledoux, Tulsa.
