Mens Basketball: English named P.O.W.

The Hawaii guard is named the conference player of the week for the second time this season.

DENVER – Hawai‘i guard Carl English has been named the Western Athletic Conference men's basketball player of the week for January 27-February 2.

English, averaged 29.0 points in a pair of home victories over Rice and
Tulsa that extended Hawai‘i's home winning streak to 24 games, the fourth longest in the nation. On Thursday, he tied a season-high with 30 points on 9-of-12 shooting versus Rice. He was also 3-of-4 from three-point range and 9-of-11 from the free throw line. Saturday night, English scored 28 points in an overtime victory against Tulsa and played all 45 minutes of the game. He made a career-high eight three-point shots in the contest. For the week, English was 18-of-32 from the field, 11-of-18 from three-point range and 11-of-13 from the free throw line.

It was English's second WAC player of the week award this year and third of his career.

The other nominations were junior forward Aaron Haynes,
Boise State; senior forward Hiram Fuller, Fresno State; senior forward Antonio Meeking, Louisiana Tech; junior guard Garry Hill-Thomas, Nevada; senior guard Omar-Seli Mance, Rice; and freshman guard Bryan Hopkins, SMU.
