Mens Volleyball: Theocharidis MPSF P.O.W.

Hawaii outside hitter Costas Theocharidis is named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week after leading the Warriors to a split with Pepperdine.

University of Hawai`i outside hitter Costas Theocharidis was named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week Monday after posting 54 kills in two nights as second ranked Hawaii split a pair of matches with top-ranked Pepperdine last weekend.

Theocharidis, a 6-foot-3 senior from Orestiada, Greece, torched the Waves for a match-high 29 kills in the series finale, boosting the "Men of War" to the four-game victory. Theocharidis hit a blistering .426 in 54 total attempts to help Hawaii avenge a loss in the series opener.

The series opener saw Theocharidis post a double-double effort, with a match-high 25 kills and 10 defensive digs.

The weekly league honor is the fifth for the three-time, American Volleyball Coaches Association first-team All-American. With 1,972 career kills, Theocharidis needs just 28 more terminations to become the Warrior program's first 2,000 kill performer.

Hawaii continues its season with a pair of non-conference matches at home against No. 12 Loyola-Chicago. Both matches are set to begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Stan Sheriff Center and can be heard live on the internet as well as on KKEA 1420 AM beginning at 6:50 p.m.
