Houston roars back, tops UL-L 78-65

In a tale of two very different halves, the Houston Cougars overcame a dreadful first half to defeat Coach Bob Marlin's Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns 78-65 tonight at Houston's Hofheinz Pavillion.

In a tale of two very different halves, the Houston Cougars overcame a dreadful first half to defeat Coach Bob Marlin's Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns 78-65 tonight at Houston's Hofheinz Pavillion.

The Cougars shot 33% in being outscored by the Ragin' Cajuns 38-26 at the halfway mark. They also only shot the ball 18 times as compared to UL's 37 for the half.

Houston came back In the second half shooting 18 of 27 for 59.3% and were led by the trio of Kendrick Washington, Kirk Van Slyke and Adam Brown. Brown finished with 23 points for the game with Washington and Van Slyke adding 17 each. UL was led by Josh Brown's 16 point effort.

Washington led Houston with nine rebounds and Van Slyke had eight. Josh Brown also led UL in rebounds with nine.

What was a 12 point deficit at the half ended in a 13 points win, a 25 point turnaround.

Coach James Dickey's halftime adjustments saved the day as the Cougars improved to 4-1 on the season while the Ragin' Cajuns fell to 1-4. There was an announced crowd of 2,889 on hand.
