Eagles Sign Catcher of The Future

The class of 2013 for Southern Miss baseball signed their Letters of Intent a few weeks ago. One name Eagle fans were happy to see come across the board was Danville (IL) C Chuckie Robinson. Considered to be one of the better catching prospects in the nation, Robinson talked about his decision to sign with the Eagles with GoldenEaglePride.com.

Southern Miss baseball continues to stockpile talent for the future. One player that really stands out even in a stellar class of 2013 is C Chuckie Robinson.

Rated by many baseball recruiting services as one of the top catches in the country, a few weeks ago Robinson made it official that if he's going to play college ball, it will be in Hattiesburg.

He detailed his decision making process in an afternoon interview.

"You know, it really was an easy decision for me after I set foot on the campus at Southern Miss," he said.

"My summer league coach put me in touch with Coach Federico, and then Coach Calliet came and took a look at me as well. They invited me to campus, I took a visit, and the rest is history."

There were many things about Southern Miss that made the school stand out above others for Robinson.

"The Coaching staff was the main reason, but I loved everything about the campus," he said. "I loved the state of Mississippi to be honest with you. It had a feeling like I was at home.

"They have a great school, terrific program and fan support, I mean, what's not to like about that school. There is a reason they are attracting all the top recruits."

Robinson is expected to be drafted and could continue to move his way up with another solid season. He says he's not making up his mind until he really has a decision to make.

"I'm signed with Southern Miss, and that's what I'm planning on doing right now," he said. "I'm not leaning one way or the other, I'm just taking one day at a time and really just having fun playing the game.

"Everything will work out. I'd love the opportunity to play for this staff because I know they would really help my game. But, I just can't say for certain right now, we'll just see what happens."

Robinson chose the Eagles over offers from UAB, Vanderbilt, Missouri, and Tulane.

We'll keep track of the Eagle prospect as he continues through his senior season.
