Introducing Grega Nachbar

"I can't wait to start playing ball in the American way. The big difference I think between American (NBA) and European basketball is the isolation." - Grega Nachbar

An Interview with Grega Nachbar a walk-on 6-4 point guard/shooting guard from Dravograd, Slovenia and brother of Houston Rocket Bostjan Nachbar.

SK - When did you start playing basketball?
GN - I started playing basketball when i was 9 years old at my primary school in Dravograd and my dad was my first coach.

SK - What do you feel is the best part of your game?
GN - The best part of my game would be penetrating and finding open guys and shooting the ball.

SK - Who's your favorite NBA player (other than your brother J) GN - My favorite NBA player used to be John Starks, but now I like Allan Houston.

SK - What areas of your game need the most work?
GN - At the moment I'm working on my physical strength but besides that, defense and shooting.

SK - What do you think is the difference between European and American basketball?
GN - I can't wait to start playing ball in the American way. The big difference I think between American (NBA) and European basketball is the isolation. In Europe we play much more dynamic, more passes and motions. But about college ball, I think that it is much faster and more aggressive.

SK - How did you do this season?
GN - I scored a little more than 30 pts per game and I was the 2nd leading scorer in the regular part of the season. I also had 3 rebounds and 6 assists per game.

SK - What does your brother think about you playing here?
GN - Boki thinks that it would be great for me to play basketball in Houston and so do I. It will be good that we will still be able to see each other and I think it will be much easier for me to have someone close at least at the beginning of the season.

SK - What style of game do you like to play?
GN - I always like to play an attractive style of basketball, fast and exciting.

SK - What made you decide on Houston?
GN - To be honest, since we knew that Boki was going to play in NBA, my parents decided to let me go to college in the states. And wherever Boki would play, that's where i would be...so in this case it turned out to be Houston.

SK - What do you plan on studying?
GN - I'm still trying to keep my options open. But probably it will be hotel management.

SK - What are your goals for the upcoming year?
GN - To come to Houston, get a good education and play basketball as good as I can to help this team win!
