The Houston Cougars took the practice field for the first time this summer as they begin their preparations for the upcoming football season, and more specifically their season opening contest with the Oklahoma Sooners in NRG Stadium.
The Cougars kicked off what they are intimating is the "toughest camp in America" early Thursday morning as Herman pointed out at the team's Media Day on Wednesday is an effort to combat the heat some. The Cougars are scheduled to continue their morning practices through the first full week next week, including Friday and Saturday of this week.
Cougar Digest was on hand as the group of players returning from last season, Herman's first as head coach of the Cougars, welcomed freshmen and transfers officially and began introducing them to the practice culture Herman instilled last year.
Herman led the Cougars to an impressive 13-1 season in his inaugural campaign. The Cougars captured their first conference championship in a decade, winning the American Athletic Conference's first ever title game, and had an impressive showing in their Chik-Fil-a Peach Bowl victory over Florida State.
