Cougar Commits Prepare For Postseason

The Houston Cougars are well represented in the 2016 state playoffs, even beyond the state of Texas. Cougar Digest takes a look at each current commit and where their team stands as the playoffs approach.

The Houston Cougars currently sit at 20 verbal commitment in the 2017 recruiting class as the football postseason approaches. Most of them are getting ready to head into the playoffs one final time before their high school careers come to a close. 

Here is a rundown on where each commit stands coming into this weekend's action.

Joe Anderson DE Copiah-Lincoln C.C. - Anderson and the Wolves finished their regular season campaign at 7-2 with a win over Pearl River. Junior College Bowl bids are announced Tuesday November 15.

Daniel Young RB Westfield - The Mustangs are 6-3 on the season with all three losses coming in non-district play. They finish their regular season up Friday with Aldine Davis and are already set to play Stratford in the opening round of the playoffs next Friday night.

Donovan Stiner S Bellaire - The Cardinals finished the year 5-4 on the season but 4 of their wins came in district. They finish the regular season Friday night with Westside and is already set to face Cypress Ranch in the opening round of the playoffs next week.

Mohamed Sanogo LB Plano West - The Wolves had a tough year and did not reach the playoffs. Sonogo finishes up his prep career Friday against Denton Guyer.

Chidi Ogbonnaya DE Langham Creek - The Lobos currently sit at 7-2 on the season with a final regular season game with Cy-Fair Saturday. They are in the playoffs but final week games will determine their opening round match-up.

Jeremy Singleton S N.O. Brother Martin - The Crusaders are 6-3 on the season and wrap up their regular season Friday night against Jesuit. Brother Martin has qualified for the playoffs and will await match-ups.

Timarcus Davis CB College Station - The Cougars finished their perfect 10-0 season up last week and are off this week as they prepare for there playoff opener next week against an opponent that will be determined by the final week of play.

Matthew Huhn OT S.A. John Jay - The Mustangs have had a rough season. They sit at 0-9 and will look for that first win in their final game Saturday against San Antonio Holmes.

Samuel Cosmi OT Atascocita - The Eagles are 8-1 on the season with a final week tune-up against Goose Creek Memorial Saturday afternoon. The Eagles will await their opening round playoff opponent following the final week of action.

Dennis Bardwell OT Huffman-Hargrave - The Falcons have also had a rough go of it this year, now sitting at 4-5 on the season with three district losses. The Falcons will play their final game Friday against Bridge City.

Elijah Gooden LB Boling - The Bulldogs have won six straight to get to 8-1 on the season and set up a big game this week with East Bernard for the district title. Boling will await the end of the season to find out it’s opening playoff match-up.

Terrel Bernard LB La Porte - The Bulldogs sit at 7-2 on the season and look to complete a perfect district record against Dobie Friday night. They will host an opening round playoff game next Friday night against a to be determined opponent.

Javelin Guidry CB Vista Murrieta (CA) -  The Broncos are at 7-2 on the season and face Great Oak Friday night. It appears the California HS playoffs do not start until a little later in November.

Bryson Smith QB John Tyler - The Lions are 8-1 on the season heading into their final regular season week match-up with rival Tyler Lee Friday night. The Lions are in the playoffs but can secure an opening round home game with a win this week.

Parker Eichenberger TE Katy - Katy sits at 7-2 on the season and has relied off five straight wins after an uncharacteristically slow start. The Tigers close out the regular season Saturday against Mayde Creek and will host Fort Bend Travis in the opening round of the playoffs next week.

Carlos Grace RB Crosby - The Cougars have rolled through the regular season again and sit at 7-2 on the season heading into their Friday night match-up with New Caney. The Cougars will face Vidor in the opening round of the playoffs next week.

Alexander Duke DE Bellaire - The Cardinals finished the year 5-4 on the season but 4 of their wins came in district. They finish the regular season Friday night with Westside and is already set to face Cypress Ranch in the opening round of the playoffs next week.

Terry Petry S Ridge Point - The Panthers capped a perfect season Thursday night with a win over Hightower. They are the district champs and will open their playoff run next Thursday night against Morton Ranch.

Derek Parish LB Pearland - The Oilers wrapped up their 7-3 regular season with a bye week this week heading into the playoffs. They await their opening round opponent that will be decided by the final week of the regular season.

Marqez Bimage LB Brenham - The Bears are 7-2 (5-1) on the season entering Friday night’s big showdown with Magnolia 8-1 (6-0) for the district title. They await the final week of play for their first round playoff opponent as well.
