The Houston Cougars proved they still are one of the top teams in the country, downing the visiting Louisville Cardinals and Lamar Jackson 36-10 in front of a lively TDECU Stadium crowd.
As is alway the case, we hand out our Game Balls to the team's top performers.
Steven Taylor - It was a very productive night for the long time Cougar starter. Taylor finished the night with a game high 14 tackles He also had a game high 2.5 sacks. He also had a forced fumble in the game and a quarterback hurry.
Duke Catalon - Major Applewhite probably gets a share of this one as he did a great job getting Catalon into the offense, both running the ball and catching it. Catalon accounted for three total touchdowns, one on the ground and two through the air including the first offensive play which went for a touchdown. Catalon finished with a game high 107 all purpose yards, 39 rushing and 68 passing.
Ed Oliver - Big Ed's legend seems to be growing by the week. The freshman phenom yet again stood out and dominated the front line with his speed. Oliver finished the day with six tackles, including two sacks and an additional tackle for-loss. He also was credited with two pass breakups and had a forced fumble.
Greg Ward Jr. - I was concerned about his effectiveness coming into the game, but he quickly proved he was able to get the job done. Ward finished his senior night 25 of 44 for 233 yards and two touchdowns. He also had 24 net rushing yards.
Todd Orlando - I saved one for Orlando (and defensive staff) who did a tremendous job on Thursday dialing up the pressure at the right times. Orlando called the game that shut down arguably the best player in college football (and sacked him 11 times) and slowed a powerful Cardinals offense to a crawl.
