I'm very curious about the Vikings, ranked 25th nationally in one poll, blowing out teams all along the way and playing in the state title game in COU on Friday. I'm guessing they have a few players who could help the Vandals? I know about Watson and Challich, do they have some LB's and linemen, too, who could play college football? I'm very impressed with what they've done this year and hope they put a serious beat-down on Eagle in the title game.
Speaking of, last year CDA had to travel to COU for all three state playoff games. This year they play two at home and have to travel to a lower seed in Eagle, what's up with that ... uh, besides COU/south Idaho politics where everything revolves around Ada County, I guess. This game should be in the Kibbie Dome or CDA, IMO.
Nevertheless, I'm guessing they have a few players who can help the Vandals in the future, right?
I asked this very question to my High School AD (I'm a teacher at Eagle) and he said that it rotates every year. This Year it was supposed to be in Southeast Idaho, but with no Southeast team in the game it rotates to Bronco Stadium.
I have seen them play 4 times and I am not a college coach, but other than Chalich the kid I am the most impressed with is Bubba Duran. He is the go to receiver who scores most of the TDs. Small, but fast and is a good possesion reciever, like Komar.
The championship game location is not chosen by seeding. It alternates between Pocatello, Moscow, and Boise. Last year, I believe it was at the Kibbie Dome. The only thing that could change the location was if two teams from the same area were playing each other.
CDA beat Capital last year in the semi-finals in Bronco Stadium. Then, CDA defeated Centennial in the title game in the Kibbie Dome. Rotation now is to either the Southeast or Southwest. So, CDA vs. Eagle in Bronco Stadium this year.
Besides Chalich and Watson, there are two others that should get a look at by Idaho. The first one is Carlos Martinez. He is a very fast and agile RB and is a very good receiver out of the backfield. The other is Bubba Duran as mentioned above.
The thing about CDA is that there some outstanding underclassmen coming up that will keep the dynasty going for at least two more years if not longer. Scheduling is starting to become a factor as very few teams from S. Idaho want to play CDA. Right now for next year CDA is playing a team from CA(TBD), OR(West Linn), WA(Spokane TBD) and one from Boise. They are looking to schedule at least one more game as Moscow, Sandpoint, and Lakeland are very reluctant to play CDA over the next couple of years.
BTW MaxPreps just rated the Vikings at 38th in the nation.
This is truth. They crushed Skyview (vancouver, wa) earlier this year. Coincidentally, Skyview, is actually the last team to beat CHS, when CHS travelled to Vancouver last year Skyview won with a late touchdown to win a shoot-out.
