Idaho takes aim at attendance records

They've stood long enough. Idaho's Cowan Spectrum attendance records for men's and women's basketball date to the 2004 season and it's time for a change at the top. As part of Saturday's in-state rivalry tripleheader, University of Idaho Athletics is asking all Vandal fans to answer the call and help make attendance history for swimming (11am), women's basketball (4pm), and men's hoops (7pm PST).

First up is the Vandal swimming and diving team, which is host to Boise State on Senior Day at the Idaho Swim Center at 11 a.m. It will be the last home event for four Vandals: Elizabeth Jagusch, Alyson O'Brien, Staci Stratton and Mary Skidmore Sasala (now a student assistant after three years as a letterwinner). Send these Vandals off in style and cheer on the rest of the Idaho swimmers and divers, who are 3-1 against Western Athletic Conference opponents in the pool this season. A victory Saturday would cap an unblemished conference dual-meet record at home for the year. There is no admission charge.

Take a lunch break, then get to the Cowan Spectrum, where you'll get two games for the price of one Saturday evening. A $10 youth, $15 general admission or $17 reserved seat is good for both games – the women at 4 p.m. and the men at 7 p.m. PST.

The Vandal women take on the Broncos in the final WAC tilt between the two at the Spectrum at 4 p.m. Idaho would like your help in breaking the current Cowan Spectrum attendance record of 2,115, which was set in 2004 against Cal State Fullerton. Head coach Jon Newlee and the Idaho women are 9-6 overall and 2-1 in the WAC before their Thursday game at San Jose State.

Following the women's contest, the Vandal men will tip off against Boise State at 7:07 p.m. in a game that will be televised on the WAC Sports Network and ESPN Full Court. Be loud, be proud and show the TV audiences what being a Vandal is all about. The men's attendance record also stood for seven years, and the crowd of 5,676 who saw the Vandals take on Utah State in 2004 has been on the top of the podium long enough. Bring your friends, your family, your neighbors, as the Idaho men try to win their seventh in a row and improve on their 12-6 overall record and 5-1 WAC tally.

Make it a Vandal Saturday, put your Vandal Pride on display, and be a part of history at the Cowan Spectrum this Saturday.
