The University of Idaho women's volleyball team continues on its quest to earn its second invitation in as many years to the the NCAA Tournament. Led by senior ace Sarah Meek, the Vandals have compiled an impressive 13-5 (6-3 BWC) record, including a 5-game win streak at the moment.

Congratulations to the volleyball team on an oustanding effort so far this fall.

Have you been following women's volleyball much this season at the University of Idaho? We have, and this group is impressive. Aside from their overall record of 13-5, which alone is impressive, they are currently 6-3 in the always rugged Big West Conference. They are tied with 2 other teams in second place (UC Irvine and Long Beach State), and are just 1 game behind 3 teams tied for 1st place in the conference (UC Santa Barbara, Cal State Northridge, and Pacific all sport a 7-2 record).

Who have the Vandals beaten to get to this point? The list is impressive. Pitt (Big East) and Mississippi State (SEC) headline the non-conference wins, plus victories over Gonzaga, Washington State, and Howard University. They've beaten a nationally ranked UC Santa Barbara team, and perrenial powerhouse Pacific. They've lost just one time in Memorial Gym this fall.

This is an outstanding team, rebuilt by head coach Debbie Buchanan in just 4 seasons, returning Idaho to the perennial NCAA tournament contention tradition developed in the Big Sky Conference. Under the guidance of Coach Buchanan last season, the Vandals received their first ever at-large bid to the tournament. Idaho finished the 2003 season with a 19-11 overall record, its best finish since the 1996 season.

She looks to be building on those accomplishments of last season with a deep team this fall, headlined by senior Sarah Meek, a 6-1 middle blocker who was just named the Big West Women's Volleyball Player of the Week for the SECOND consecutive week. The senior, flanked by an outstanding team, is having a dominant senior season after earning 1st Team All Big West Conference honors last year as a junior.

Below are images shot by our own LARRY JOHNSON while Idaho hosted UC Santa Barbara a couple weeks ago (a key Idaho victory early in their current 5-game winning streak). There is also an image or 2 from the Northridge game as well.

Many congratulations to the team on a great effort so far this season...we're watching!
