Title Game Bound!

Pre-season All-American candidate Emily Faurholt hits the winning jump shot with her opposite shooting hand, giving Idaho an exhilarating 69-67 victory over Long Beach State in the Big West Tournament semifinals. Idaho now faces UCSB in a rematch of last year's Big West title game.

It's practically impossible to say what was most impressive about the Idaho Women's Basketball team today. Was it Emily Faurholt's 35 points against Long Beach State (19-9) today in the semifinals? Or the fact that she hit the game winning J as time expired? Or the fact that she hit it with her left hand from 12 feet out (she typically shoots with her right)? Was it Heather Thoelke shooting 50% from 3-point land (4 of 8) while scoring 14 points? Was it Leilani Mitchell's 15 points, 7 assists and 4 steals? Was it this team's resolve despite it's losses due to injury in the low-post?

Whatever the reason, the Idaho Women's Basketball is a tremendous cause for celebration. Idaho (19-10, 12-6 BWC) advances to the Big West Championship game for the second year in a row, and will face perrenial Big West powerhouse UC Santa Barbara (20-8, 16-2 BWC) again in the title game Saturday at 1pm in Anaheim (the game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports Net West 2). Idaho swept the season series with UCSB, stunning UCSB 75-62 on the road in January, then turning around and beating them a month later in Moscow 56-52. Can the Vandals make a clean 3-0 sweep of the Gauchos?

We'll find out soon enough. Best of luck to the Lady Vandals from all of us at VandalVenue.
