Vandal women fall in Championship Game

The Vandal Women's Basketball team fell one game short of making it back-to-back 20-win seasons today, falling to UC Santa Barbara in the Big West Championship game 74-66 Saturday in Anaheim. Idaho's 19-11 mark and Tournament run gives them their second consecutive #2 finish in the final Conference standings. The Women will find out Sunday afternoon if a WNIT date awaits them.

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME SUMMARY:

Another impressive season for the Vandal Women's Basketball team comes to a close with a hard-fought loss to perrenial Big West powerhouse UC Santa Barbara in the Big West Championship game. This year, despite building an 11 point early 2nd half lead, Idaho fell by 8 to the Gauchos with a final score of 74-66. A 19-0 run over the course of an 8 minute period in the 2nd half fueled UCSB (21-8) on to victory and the Big West's automatic NCAA bid.

Up next the women will await their Women's National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) fate as the selection committee will announce it's playing field Sunday afternoon after the NCAA builds it's brackets.

Congratulations to the Lady Vandals from all of us at VandalVenue.com on an outstanding season (so far...)!
