Vandals Keep Big West Tourney In Sight

Vandal mens hoops improved to 6-9 Big West, 9-15 overall tonight with Idaho's 65-53 win over Cal State Fullerton at the Cowan Spectrum. Coach Perry and the Vandals move into a 2-way tie for 7th place in the Big West Conference.<br> <br> In women's hoops news, the Vandals won big on the road Friday, thumping Cal State Fullerton 64-46 to sweep the season series. The victory improves Idaho's record to 4-9 Big West, 10-14 on the season. They are one win away from making the Big West Tourney.

Men's Hoops Update:

Tonight was the last night for the Vandal men's seniors to play in front of a home crowd, and the seniors played inspired ball in front of 2,064 at the Cowan Spectrum. Senior Matt Gerschefske led the Vandals with 17 points, hitting 3 3-point attempts (his first 3-pointers of the season in conference play). The Vandals again were at a serious height disadvantage to the Titans, and yet still came away with a 31-23 advantage on the boards.

The Vandals now hit the road for a 3-game road swing through Utah State, Cal State Northridge and Pacific as they keep their tournament hopes alive. Congratulations to Coach Perry and the Vandal basketball team on another hard-fought, over-achieving effort on the court this weekend.

Womens Hoops Update:

The Vandals led the game all night Friday night, jumping out to a 38-23 advantage at the half over Cal State Fullerton (1-11, 3-20). Darci Pemberton led all scrorers by shooting a double-double (20 points, 11 rebounds), and an absolutely impressive 20th double-figure scoring effort in 24 games this year. Julie Wynstra scored 15 and Keisha Moore sunk 12 points, as the Vandals are now just one win away from a guarranteed seed in the Big West Tournament.

The women have 1 more game on the road (at UC Riverside) before closing out the regular season at home against Cal State Northridge (2/27) and Pacific (3/2) at the Cowan Spectrum. Congratulations to Coach Divilbiss and the entire team on this victory, and best of luck going into the final 3 game stretch.
