As a high schooler at Seattle's Rainier Beach High School, Tim Ellis was named to USA Today's All-USA High School Boys Basketball Team (honorable mention, 2000). He was recruited heavily out of high school by a number of teams, including Oregon and Washington State of the PAC-10 before going to the College of Southern Idaho to work on his academics. His 2 years at CSI have seen him become a leader on a team loaded with talent (31.1 minutes per game, #2 on team), and he is described in one publication as "a human rebounding machine, who led the Eagles in rebounding in 12 games."

ESPN had this to say about Tim in their discussion of the the Golden Eagles which were at the time ranked 9th in the nation:

"Also worth mentioning is "the other wing" for CSI, 6-3 sophomore Tim Ellis, who is averaging 15.6 points a game while shooting 41 percent from 3-point range. Ellis, a native of Seattle, is being recruited by Idaho, Nevada, Boise State, Creighton, Wichita State, South Alabama, and Fullerton. Ellis, who is very athletic, has toughness and plays over the rim, is starting to attract considerable attention."

As is the case with teammate Jack May (whom Idaho is also recruiting), Tim would be an excellent addition to the team who could see significant playing time next season. His aggressive style and constant drive to pursue any free ball fits in perfectly with what Coach Perry is building at the University of Idaho.
