Jomar Drake update... An invited walkon wide receiver out of City College of San Francisco, Drake did not participate in the last scrimmage of fall camp last week. He did, however, get a workout in on the stationary bike in the training area. The injury he is working through is not expected to keep him off the gridiron too long, and a return to the field soon is expected.
Jo-Artis Ratti update... Expected to compete for significant playing time in the Vandal linebacker rotation, word on the street is that Ratti (6-1, 220), a former JC Gridwire All-American and former CollegeFootballNews.com Top 25 JC linebacker prospect, may be getting back out onto the practice field again Monday. We will be keeping our eyes open for another sighting.
David Vobora update... Projected starting inside linebacker (WILL) David Vobora is anticipated to be returning to the Vandal huddle as early as Monday.
Andre Harris update... Questions swirled last weekend wondering whether Andre Harris practiced in the final scrimmage. He wasn't listed in the stats sheet released by the UI, but he definitely took part running with 2nd and 3rd offense. He was took, and delivered, some shots as the 2nd and 3rd team defenses did a pretty good job of stuffing whatever the O tried to run for the most part.
Vandal cornerback update... The starters have been set in stone since summer. Reggie Jones (LCB) and Stanley Franks (RCB) will start Saturday against Michigan State. With the loss of senior Jason Martin (no reason given for why he left the program a couple weeks ago), behind Jones and Franks is a young but talented group of kids, starting with redshirt freshman invited walkon Bryan Dukes (hard working kid who has steadily moved up the ranks) and JC transfer Kiel McDonald, a graduate of Sacramento State getting a graduate degree at the University of Idaho. According to our notes, working closely behind McDonald and Dukes are a couple of speedy true freshmen in General Parnell and Terrance McCoy. According to our sources, expect to see all 6 get significant reps this fall. The four backups are training to play either corner position. They will rotate in where needed.
Keo has been working with the top defensive unit most of fall camp.
Josh Shaw update... Josh worked at defensive end in both the scrimmage and regular practices last week. Siua Musika and Ryan Davis worked starting tackles with Ben Alexander working the opposite end.
Interior defensive line... We haven't mentioned much about the big kids slated to play DT this fall, but they all (R Davis, Musika, Alex Toailoa, Marvin Jones, and the rest) were going full tilt in scrimmage and practices last week.
NOTE REGARDING FINAL SCRIMMAGE... For those not aware of fires burning on the Palouse late last week, the air in Moscow had a haze due to fires that were burning near Lewiston and Colfax (fires appear to be contained by now). Word is that for at least one practice late in the afternoon the lights on the Sprinturf Practice Fields were turned on.
