Cyber Game Ball

We at have created an award, which will be released on a weekly basis, for the player(s) we feel performed the best during the weekend game. This week we award the winner of the first Cyber Game Ball for the Idaho-BSU game.

There were several players we believe had admirable performances this weekend at Boise State. Among the finalists in our voting were quarterback Brian Lindgren with a solid 236 yard, 2 TD passing night, runningback Zach Gerstner who stepped up and ran hard all night, and wide receivers Josh Jelmberg and Orlando Winston who stepped forward with some clutch catches. All admirable performances, but our votes were most strongly cast with 2 other "people".

Honorable Mention: Kelly Talavou, 6-2, 310 pound true freshman nose guard. In his first game since playing in the Orange County All-Star High School football game last fall in Los Angeles, youngster Kelly showed why he was such a valued recruit to the new Vandal staff. On the night Kelly led all defensive linemen with 5 tackles, including a quarterback sack. One tackle came with BSU running up the gut on 3rd and short, and Kelly was there to stuff running back Brock Forsey at the line of scrimmage. The play resulted in BSU going for a fieldgoal, which they missed.

The Cyber Game Ball Winners: The Offensive Line. On a night where the game plan rested squarely on the shoulders of the offensive line to control the clock, the big guys up front gave an admirable performance. With the team down 14-0 in the first quarter, and a Bronco route appearing to be inevitable, these guys took matters into their own hands and guided the offense on a grinding, 7 minute 25 second, 19 play, 85 yard drive. On Idaho's next possession, down 21-7, they did it again with a 5:50, 13 play, 80 yard drive to bring the score to 21-14. In the first half they were instrumental in helping the offense convert 8 of 9 third down attempts. Congrats to all 5 on an outstanding effort.
