Around the Belt

The second week of Sun Belt action was...better! The conference recorded its first win of the season against a Division 1-A opponent, and generally played respectably in its games (ok, most of its games). Here's a look at how our conference mates fared over the weekend.

Around the Sunbelt

ASU (1-2) beat Tulsa (WAC) 21-19. CONGRATULATIONS ASU! You delivered the conferences FIRST Division 1-A win of the year! Sophomore running back Antonio Warren put up 193 yards rushing on the day and was named the Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week.
NEXT: At Illinois.

UNT (1-1) beat Nichols State 23-0. UNT is fielding its characteristically rugged defense. Against the Longhorns last week they didn't allow a touchdown in the second half. Against 1-AA Nichols State, they didn't allow a point the entire game. Their offense is suspect (very conservative passing attack), and has stuggled early.
NEXT: At Alabama.

MTSU (0-2) lost at Tennessee 26-3. The Raiders played admirably at Tennessee, but could never get their offense rolling against the Top 5 ranked Volunteers. They recorded their first interception and sack on the season in this game. MTSU will take this week off and prepare for their home date the following week against Southeast Missouri.

NMSU (0-2) lost at Cal 34-13. Despite outgaining the Golden Bears 321-298, the Aggies could not generate points early enough in the game, falling behind in the third quarter 24-6. The Aggies take this weekend off before hosting New Mexico of the Mountain West Conference.

UL-L (0-2) lost at home to Minnesota 35-11. The Cajuns have the makings for a good offense, but their QB is really struggling with interceptions and some bad decisions.
NEXT: At Houston

UL-M (0-2) lost at Ole Miss 68-0. In 2 games the Indians have given up 99 points and scored 3. They are at home this week against 1-AA McNeese State, and are 27 point underdogs. My oh my...
NEXT: Home against McNeese State
