At last in this 2002 season, we finally have a chance to cheer the Vandals on at home. Its actually a double bonus this weekend...we get to welcome an excellent opponent in San Diego State of the Mountain West Conference to Moscow. Its their first trip to our campus, and only the second meeting between the two schools (the last was an Idaho loss in San Diego).
This game also kicks off a 5 game home slat (all of which will be played at The Dome for the first time since 1998), plus its Dad's Weekend and time to rally around the troops! The weather will be warm and dry in the Dome, and two of the nations top ranked passing attacks will be on display. San Diego State's offense is ranked among the Top 5 in the Nation, with the top rated receivers in receiving yards per game and number of receptions per game. Idaho brings the 6th ranked receiver in Josh Jelmber (number of receptions per game) and a passing attack ranked among the Top 20 in the country.
If you can only make it to one game this year, this is going to be one you probably won't want to miss. Bring a friend, spend the day walking through town and campus, and take-in what we think will be a heckuva football game in The Dome.
Our schedule is ranked WHAT?!
Earlier this week we mentioned that our non-conference schedule is ranked by Sagarin as the 2nd toughest in the nation. As many of you are probably thinking, we want to exclaim a hearty "it feels like it!" Our team is rebuilding its defense and special teams, and they've had to do it with a razor thin margin of error against some explosive football teams.
So, who has the nastiest schedule? Central Florida (Penn State, Arizona State, and Syracuse, plus Liberty and Buffalo...hmmm). Who's just behind Idaho? Middle Tennessee with non-conference games against Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky and Vanderbilt.
For those of you interested in looking up some of Idaho's really old football scores (dating back to 1894), and if you're not familiar with the Official Idaho site, below is a link:

Gee, thanks Lee!
Many of you may remember this, but just to keep it fresh in your mind (and to keep our optimism up), Lee Corso picked Idaho to win the Sun Belt this season. I have no idea what his "predictions" were for the first 3 games of this season, but lets hope this prognosticator is right on the money as the season progresses.
