Vandals Launch New Web Site
Until the launch of the new site the athletic department was constrained by the format, style, and design of the University of Idaho's brochure-oriented site, which was not that helpful or efficient in communicating the progress of the Vandal's athletic programs. The old site did not provide direct of support fund-raising activities and the performance of the Internet broadcasts was limited. The new site solved these problems while delivering a number of new services.
The outline method of navigating the old site was replaced with an interactive experience for fans, parents, recruits, and the students. The media experience is now enhanced to include web casts with live and on-demand audio and video features. Users can sign up for Vandals E-News, purchase apparel, submit bids for Vandal sports memorabilia, and buy wallpapers and ring tones for their mobile telephones.
The new site provides links to the University of Idaho main web site, the NCAA, the I-Club, the Western Athletic Conference site, Yahoo! sports, and XOS. XOS replaced the previous web site host and, because XOS is fully engaged in college sports web sites, the Vandals have made a major course change in the marketing of their Division 1 athletic programs.
The new govandals.com site also provides links to the Vandal Scholarship Fund, all schedules, the Vandal ticket office, and ESPN U. The new site for the Vandal Athletic Department now has the ability to grow and provide even more content in the months and years to come.
With new facility projects and upgrades planned for the Kibbie Dome the ability to communicate the status and goals of each project will become cheaper and easier than the old-school limits of long distance travel, company cars, and speeches at weekly luncheons. Due to the extreme hard work of several people in the Idaho Athletic Department, the Vandals have fully embraced the Internet where communication to the diverse geography of the State of Idaho will be dramatically improved.
