Anaheim QB getting looks from Idaho

IDAHO LOOKS TO be in the recruiting market for quarterbacks this class. One whom the silver and gold are showing preliminary interest in is Vince Gomez out of Anaheim. The field general looks to be one Idaho, and most schools, want to see perform his senior year -- although UNLV is coming on strong -- but at the same time, as the saying goes, you can't coach 6-foot-5.

The numbers can and do remain in flux all the way up to Signing Day in February, but GoVandals.net is projecting the Vandals will take a pair of quarterbacks this class.

Two potential scholies at the position takes on even more significance when you consider GoVandals.net is also projecting most of the Class of '08 scholies will be used on the defensive side of the ball.

Vince Gomez (6.5, 200, 4.7) is one of the QBs in the Vandal orbit. Much riding on if he receives a Vandal offer will likely be based on his senior campaign.

Schools who choose to wait for a prospect's senior season in making their determination often ask for the prospect to send tape of his first two games as soon as it is available.

GOMEZ HAS BEEN seeing the most interest to date, in no particular order, from Connecticut, UTEP, UNLV, Arizona, Oregon, Idaho and Utah. He just last month sent a pair of junior season tapes out, with more to follow, he said.

Recruiting, he said, hasn't really taken off yet, but the most early interest has been coming out of Vegas.

"UNLV has been contacting me a lot. UNLV throws the ball a lot..and they run a lot of shotgun, so I like that," he said.

Gomez said in addition to getting some more junior tape out this offseason, he plans on sharpening up his skills before Anaheim's fall practices get underway. "I love play action," said Gomez. "And I want to work (and get) better on my footwork."

AS A JUNIOR, Gomez passed for 1,499 yards on 92-of-182 passing (50.5 percent) with 13 TDs. He earned second team all-league honors for his efforts.

"I'm good under pressure," said Gomez.
