This season our site had kickoff specialist VICENTE RICO listed as a junior. However, all publications last week listed him as a senior in preparation for Senior Day. We were unable to confirm his class officially last week, and chose to add him to the senior list. This weekend our sources indicate he has one more year of eligibility remaining, and is expected to be back at Idaho next fall.
With Vicente Rico
anticipated to be back in the fold next fall, Idaho
should have a solid kicking game in 2008. Expected to be joining Rico are fellow seniors-to-be Tino Amancio
and T.J. Conley
Amancio is on pace to set a new University of Idaho career fieldgoal percentage record, connecting on 75% of attempts this year. For the season, he converted 7-of-8 attempts inside 39 yards, was 3-of-5 betweeen 40-49 yards, and 2-of-3 from 50 yards or more.
Conley ended the regular season ranked 59th in the Division 1A in yards per punt. More importantly is his ability to pin the opponents back. Of the 67 punts he had going into the USU game, 19 were downed inside the opponents 20-yard line, 17 were fair-caught, and 8 went for touchback. In total, 44 of 66 punts were not returned this fall.
Vicente Rico joined the Vandals last season out of Hartnell College and redshirted. A strong-legged kicker, this season Vicente has owned the kickoff specialist position. Going into Saturday's finale against Utah State Rico had recorded a solid 16 touchbacks in 44 kickoffs, was averaging 66.8 yards per kickoff, and had NONE of his kicks go out of bounds.
Against the blue Aggies on Saturday Rico had two kickoffs, and averaged 64.0 yards per boot.
