Close to making a decision

High School has been busy this recruiting season, with trips to Arizona State, Fresno State and Idaho following a stellar senior season. With LOI day fast approaching, a decision is near. Gary Walker out of Redlands East Valley (Calif.) visited the University of Idaho last weekend on an official visit to the Moscow campus. He has taken official visits to Fresno State, Arizona State, and Idaho, and a decision is imminent.

The Wildcats posted a 10-2 season this year and Walker was instrumental to the team's success. He was the team's leading receiver with 464 yards, 27 receptions, and four touchdowns on the year. He also logged 42 carries for 294 yards and scored once on the ground.

But it is on the defensive side of the ball where he may have made his biggest contribution. "I'm aggressive and I like to hit," Walker told Scout.com last week. "I think that's a strength - trying to go out there every play and make a hit." Statistically he ended 2008 with 68 total tackles (second on the team)and had four picks, two of which he returned for scores.

No slouch on special teams either, the speedy Walker returned three punts for touchdowns.

A complete player by most measures.

Below is summary Scout.com's followup interview with Walker on the heels of his trip to Idaho.

About the trip overall: "It went good. Actually I had a lot of fun, got to meet all the players and talk to the coaches and all that; so I had a really good time. I like the campus. I like the facilities. I like the players, a lot of the people in the town. Overall I really liked it. Yeah, I really liked it and enjoyed it."

"I liked how everything was close together and how the buildings are made out of brick. I thought that was nice. That caught my attention, how they're made out of brick and looked kinda cool. They were nice. The way they were built, that caught my attention."

About his host last week during his official trip to Idaho: "Andre Ferguson actually went to my school, to Redlands (CA) East Valley, and he was my host; so I was spending time with him when we had free time and all that. He's a really cool guy, too."

About who tops his list right now: "Fresno State and Idaho. They both want me to play free safety. I've just gotta make sure that I think about it and know what I'm doing before I just do it; so I'll talk to my dad and all that. I'm just still seeing what's going with the whole recruiting process. I really like Idaho and I had a fun time there, and they're high on my list."

About his impression of the Idaho coaching staff: "The coaches are great. I really respect them. They have a lot of energy and they know how to take care of a player. I really like them and I like their philosophy."

About what specifically he liked about the facilities at Idaho: "I liked the weight room - the weight room to me is really important, to have a nice weight room; so that really caught my attention. I could see myself working out in there. And I liked the big dome, the Kibbie Dome was great. It was really nice.

About when he expects to make a decision: "I think I should know something by the next couple of days. I need to make my decision in the next couple of days; so I think by the end of the week maybe I should know something."
