Almost....

Led by the sharp shooting of junior Forward Tyrone Hayes (team high 20 points on the night) Idaho came within 4 points of knocking off Big West leading Utah State. Ultimately, the Aggies prevailed as the Vandals fell 56-60 at the Cowan Spectrum.

MEN'S SUMMARY
In front of a home crowd of 4,278 at the Cowan Spectrum, Idaho's young team almost knocked of perrenial power Utah State. Down by 2 at the half, Idaho (4-5 BWC, 8-10) kept it close throughout. However, the Aggies experience and cohesiveness proved too much, especially down the stretch as the Aggies (7-2 BWC, 16-4) ended the night with a hard fought 4 point win.

The Vandals, with just one returner from last year's team, continue to show steady improvement under Coach Perry, and we are confident under him they will continue to improve ("I'm just not into coming close," Perry said after the game). They took the number one team in the conference to the brink, and now they need to keep the momentum going as they play the balance of their conference schedule. Last year's team made the BWC tournament as the last seed. This year's team is good enough to be a mid-conference seed as long as they stay focused. We're confident of it, and this game was a testament of how far this team has come in just a couple short months.

This week the Vandals hit the road for games at Cal Poly (5-4 BWC, 9-9) on Feb 6, and at UC Santa Barbara (6-3 BWC, 9-10) on Saturday, Feb 8.

WOMEN'S SUMMARY
The Vandal Women had a much deserved week off last week, and now resume play in the friendly confines of the Cowan Spectrum. Idaho (4-4 BWC, 6-12) is currently tied with three teams in the conference race, including Cal Poly (4-4 BWC, 8-10) who visits Moscow on Wednesday, February 5th. Then on Saturday, Conference leading UC Santa Barbara (8-1 BWC, 15-3, currently ranked Nationally in the Top 25) rolls into town in a game that tips off at 7:00pm. If you haven't had a chance to catch Idaho's rebuilding Women's team, this would be a great weekend to cheer them on to victory.
