Bielfeldt Reflects On Illini Official Visit

The Fighting Illini basketball team continues to seek talent for future teams. Senior Peoria Notre Dame power forward Max Bielfeldt took his official visit to Illinois last weekend. He discusses his thoughts and timeline for making a college decision.

Max Bielfeldt is a power forward from Peoria Notre Dame High School who has been on the Illinois recruiting radar for awhile. He is a very productive player and brings a passion for the game. High majors are starting to realize this, and Illinois is interested in bringing him into the fold.

The big man took his official visit to the Big 10 school this past weekend. Among other things, he witnessed the team's win against Iowa. He enjoyed the visit but did not commit as many expected.

"It went good. No commitment or anything yet. Overall it went really well."

An official visit allows the player to get a true feel for the coaches, team, and school. Bielfeldt came down on Saturday and left Sunday. He talked about his experience while at Assembly Hall.

"I got there and watched the team shoot around before the game. I then got something to eat with them and took a tour of the campus. After that I went to the game and watched them get the win over Iowa."

The visit then transitioned to the night portion where he was able to get to know the coaches better and become familiar with players who could possibly be his teammates down the line.

"I went to dinner with the coaches and Meyers Leonard. Meyers took me out, and we hung out with the team. I got to know them better."

Bielfeldt is well versed on the school and team but says that spending time with the players was a big reason for needing an official visit. Did he have a good time?

"It was great. That was one of the main reasons I took the official."

His visit continued Sunday and included a visit with a fellow Peorian.

"The next morning, I went out to breakfast with all the coaches and Bill Cole. I talked to Coach (Bruce) Weber about how everything is going."

He and Weber discussed what his role would be on the team, as well as the next step in the process.

"We talked about where everything is standing with not committing yet. They said just think it over and do some more studying about it and go from there."

What is his timetable for a decision?

"We are still trying to figure that out. I'm not sure yet."

Rumors have been circulating the last couple of days about a possible visit to Michigan this upcoming weekend.

"That is also undecided at this point."

One thing that is not undecided is Bielfeldt's excitement for the start of the state tournament.

"Oh yeah. No question about that!"

Peoria Notre Dame looks to make a deep run in the state tournament. It begins with Dunlap Tuesday night.
