On Friday, Illinois head coach Bruce Weber paid a visit to multiple prospects on both sides of the Mississippi river. Chicago is the Illini's recruiting base, but he went South to visit several recruiting targets on Friday.
He started his day by visiting Glenwood High School freshman Peyton Allen's school. Weber is not allowed to talk with the prospects themselves but is making it known that Allen is a key target for 2014. His stock is on the rise with his play late in the high school season, and colleges are starting to take notice.
He then went to see McCluer North junior power forward Jordon Granger play in an open gym. Granger is one of the small group of big men under consideration for a 2012 scholarship offer. He is looking to set up a visit in the near future. Granger has excellent upside as a player.
The setting for the next stop was at Cahokia High School where Weber observed Cahokia freshman teammates Darius Austin and Raymond Doby in an open gym alongside Belleville East sophomore guard Malcolm Hill. Look for feature stories on all three of the Southwest Jets players soon. They are off to a hot start on the AAU circuit this season!
Also, assistant coach Jay Price checked in on 2014 forward Keita Bates-Diop at Normal University High School to watch his open gym. Bates-Diop is going to be visiting Illinois unofficially in the near future. Watch out for him to blow up this summer with the 15U Illinois Wolves.
Another recruiting note is Indianapolis North Central point guard Ronnie Johnson will be making a visit to the Illinois campus in the near future.
