Malcolm Hill Continues To Impress In AAU

Several new players in the Illinois class of 2013 are starting to emerge. One of those prospects is Belleville East shooting guard Malcolm Hill. He has enjoyed a great start to his AAU season and is starting to get interest from a host of top schools including Illinois.

Malcolm Hill is a 6'-6" shooting guard from Belleville East High School. He has a smooth game and the ability to develop into a big-time scorer. Illinois and several other Big 10 schools are in the mix in the early stages of Hill's recruitment.

Hill visited the Illini for a game against Purdue in February and liked what he saw.

"The atmosphere really stood out. They have very supportive fans, and they know how to play together."

Several aspects of the Illini basketball program have stood out to Hill from the beginning of his recruitment.

"I like the atmosphere and team chemistry, and Bruce Weber is a good coach."

Weber made the trip to Belleville to check out one of his practices during the high school season and got another visit for a recent open gym workout. At this point, the UI ranks in his top five schools.

"Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, and Missouri"

This could change in the near future as he will be visiting both Ohio State and Missouri soon. Both are picking up the recruiting heat on Hill and appear to be serious contenders for his services.

Hill recently finished up a successful sophomore campaign where he started to get recognized by college coaches. He is already looking forward to next season.

"It was very good. We lost to East St. Louis. We should have won. That's how things happen. We will come back next year."

This spring, Hill is competing with the Southwest Jets on the 16 and Under level.

"I've enjoyed meeting new teammates and seeing how our chemistry comes along. We are going to work well together and have a good season."

Hill has a long and athletic body. His offensive game is silky smooth, with a good perimeter jump shot and strong ball handling skills.

He started off with a bang at the Chicagohoops Spring Tip Off Classic. The most impressive aspect of Hill's game was his ability to drive hard to the basket with an explosive first step. He drew contact multiple times at the rim for and-ones. Getting to the charity stripe is something he does at a high rate, and he is effective there.

Hill is a player whose stock is on the rise. He could have a breakout season on the AAU circuit. He is already a top 10 prospect in the class of 2013 in Illinois, and that ranking could escalate over the summer.
