Jalen James is a 6'-3" point guard with lighting quick speed in transition reminiscent of a current pro point guard in the city of Chicago. This is where he is at his best. He makes great decisions and pushes the ball better than any point guard in the state.
His stock has continued to rise with great play this spring. He was initially noticed by the Illinois staff late in his high school season with Hope Academy. They have continued to recruit the sophomore hard. He shares what they like about him.
"My point guard skills and how I am an unselfish pass-first point guard."
James has visited Illinois and has grown fond of the program and its fan base.
"I like how their student body comes out to support, and their defense."
The staff has been into Hope to check in on him this spring. No offer has been made as yet. Does James believe they are close to offering him a scholarship?
"Yeah, I think so."
His recruitment has picked up, with several high majors showing interest in his services.
"I'm hearing from Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, DePaul, Dayton, Cleveland State, Baylor, Tennessee, and Xavier."
Baylor and Cleveland State have extended offers, and he visited Michigan recently. The competition has been a big jump from 1A basketball at Hope to playing against many of the top players in the nation during AAU ball.
"The step up from my high school level to AAU is a big one. I am getting used to it."
The competition has not fazed James, as he has put up great games throughout the spring. To go along with his outstanding play in transition, he attacks his man strong off the bounce and finishes strong at the hoop. He is an excellent prospect who is just beginning to realize his potential.
