2014 Point Larry Austin Talks Illini Offer

The Illinois coaching staff finally pulled the trigger on offering an in-state guard. The recipient of the offer is Springfield Lanphier sophomore Larry Austin. He elevated his stock this summer with the USA 16U squad and strong play in July. Austin shares how the offer went down Wednesday.

Larry Austin has long been awaiting an Illinois offer, and Wednesday he got it.

"They contacted my dad and wanted me to call them. They offered me over the phone. We talked about how they are looking for me to be a guy to bring in other players if I did commit, but I am not going to commit because it is way too early. I am still leaving my options open. They said I am the guy they are looking for in the 2014 class."

Illini fans have been wondering if he would commit when offered. They will have to wait awhile until a decision is made. He says the earliest he would make a decision is the summer going into his senior season.

"I most definitely want to wait it out. I want to see what offers come, stay humble about it, and keep getting better every day."

The offer is his second, along with Bradley. This one has special significance.

"It is really good because it is my home state school. It is always good to get an offer from your home state."

Austin has built a good relationship with the staff.

"I have a good relationship with them. Coach Weber and Jerrance Howard are good guys. I like Jay Price and all of the coaching staff."

Illini fans will see the Springfield Lanphier point guard on campus in the near future on an unofficial visit.

"I am going to the football game on the September 17."

He is hearing from a number of other schools as well.

"Ohio State, Xavier, Tennessee, Kansas, Kentucky, Memphis and Georgetown."
