Malcolm Hill Expands On Why He Chose UI

Fighting Illini basketball coaches turned a double play as they land their second commit on consecutive days. Malcolm Hill becomes the second member of the Illinois class of 2013 with his commitment tonight. Hill tells us why he pulled the trigger!

Malcolm Hill saw his stock skyrocket tremendously over the past several months. He is considered one of the top wings in the class of 2013 in Illinois and a priority recruit for Illinois. Tonight the Illini landed the four-star athlete.

"I felt comfortable going there after the official visit. I told them I wanted to go to Illinois."

What were the reactions of Illini coaches Bruce Weber and Jay Price when he told them the good news?

"I had Coach Weber and Coach Price on the line. They were excited. I had a lot of things to say!"

Hill talks about why Illinois was his ultimate choice.

"It was my home state school and will be great for my family to come see me play. They have great team chemistry and a good coaching staff. The players get along on and off the court. They have a strong alumni and great academics."

He walks us through his Saturday visit.

"First I went to the football game and talked to Coach Price and Coach (Jerrance) Howard. I then scrimmaged with the players. After that I talked to Coach Weber."

This past weekend really solidified his desire to be part of the Illini family.

"I felt comfortable there. I knew I wouldn't have any regrets going there. Once I saw the players and their relationship with the coaches, I was sold."

The Illinois coaching staff played a key role in this commitment.

"My relationship with the coaches was very important because that is everything. I know coach Weber is going to yell at me more, but that is his duty. He is going to make me mature as a man. Coach Howard and Coach Price stood out too."

Interacting with the current team, especially the six new freshman, was important to Hill.

"It was fun. They like to joke around and are real cool people. They took time out and went out of their way to talk with me."

He is happy to have finalized this decision.

"I am relieved knowing I won't have to worry about who is watching me. I can now focus on school and my high school basketball season."

Anything you want to say to Illinois fans?

"I can't wait until 2013!"
