James Reconfirms UI Commit In Diary #4

A lot has happened in the past few months for Fighting Illini basketball commitment Jalen James. He changed high schools, and the coach he committed to was fired. But the move is proving beneficial, and James reconfirmed his UI decision after meeting new coach John Groce on a campus visit last weekend. He updates his situation for Illini fans in the fourth segment of his diary.

What's up Illini fans! I know things have been crazy for the basketball program. I just wanted to check in with you guys to let you know that I'm doing well.

School and basketball are coming along great! School is almost over, which means AAU trips and getting better for my senior year of basketball is all on my agenda!

My high school years are coming to an end! It's been a bumpy road, but everything happens for a reason. I think me having the right people in my corner has helped me out a lot. God, my parents , my coaches and the Illini fans have really helped out with the problems I've been going through.

AAU has started. I'm playing with the Illinois Wolves 17U for the spring and summer. Coach (Mike) Mullins has been a great coach, teacher and friend towards me. He wants me to be the best person first and then a player. I think he's done a great job with coaching me.

I know I can be a turnover king, but I look at it as growing/point guard pains. He always finds a way to stick with me.

Other than AAU starting, I will be working out, getting better and becoming a better point guard! Working on my off hand, jumpshots and gaining weight will be my top 3 priorities.

Me being at prep school and staying away from my parents has really helped me become a young man. Staying on my own, I really think it will help me for my freshman year at Illinois.

If you don't know now, I love the new coaching staff and style of play. I think Coach (John) Groce will do the best he can at coaching and taking Illinois back to the NCAA Tourney!

My family is doing well, and everything is A- OK! :)
