Big Man McLaurin Transfers To Illinois

The Fighting Illini basketball team needed a quick fix for this next season due to the decision of Meyers Leonard to turn pro. Today it received good news when Coastal Carolina's Sam McLaurin confirmed he will transfer for his final season of eligibility.

Sam McLaurin was looking for a new college for his final year of eligibility. His midweek visit to Illinois was sufficient for him to commit to the Big 10 school.

McLaurin averaged 10 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.2 blocks a game while shooting 65% from the field his redshirt junior season. He will provide much needed experience, athleticm and depth to the Illini front court next year.

McLaurin, who visited Drake and had interest from Georgia Tech, Baylor, SMU and Virginia among others, will graduate this spring and have one year of eligibility remaining. He is 6'-8", 230 pounds and attended high school at East Gadsden in Havana, Florida.

The Illini still have one scholarship available and are continuing to recruit.
