Another Ohioan Likes Illinois

Ohio's Brock Bolen may commit to Illinois before the start of the 2003 season and now another very good tailback from the Buckeye State has eyes for Champaign-Urbana.

Pernell Williams, a 5-foot-11, 195-pound, running back from Dayton (Ohio) Jefferson is one of the top running back prospects in the Midwest.

Williams, who transferred to Jefferson High School from (Dayton) Chaminade-Julienne in mid-season says his stock dropped after his transfer.

"I was in the "Top Five" in Ohio's Future Stars before I transferred, now I think I'm in the 20's." Williams said.

"I'm the best running back in Ohio. You have to have that type of confidence. I know about (Brock) Bolen and I know about (Antonio) Pittman and the others but I'm the best."

Does Williams have any offers.?

"Right now, its just Michigan State and Cincinnati. I think I'd have more if I didn't transfer from C.J. (Chaminade-Julienne).

"My favorites are Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Iowa, Penn State, Minnesota and Illinois. Basically the Big Ten schools.

"No leader right now. I'm looking forward to the up coming season."

Williams started as a freshman for Chaminade-Julienne and had 900 yards rushing in eight games last year before transferring.

Pernell Williams is solid in the classroom, carrying a 3.3 GPA and scoring 21 on his ACT.
