No seniors? No problem. What's in store for this week's showdown?
We already saw Downers Grove North once this season, and they won a big rivalry game against Downers Grove South. This time around, the test is even bigger, both figuratively and literally.
Hinsdale Central is one of the top teams in the state. Their only loss so far was to top 5 team Glenbard West, who is sure to contend for a state title. Downers Grove North is a young team in general, so this could be a big maturation game for them.
However, some of the top players for Hinsdale Central, specifically center Brian Allen and WR/TE Ian Bunting, lead the charge for their squad. For North, this will be another chance to see sophomore signal caller David Edwards lead his team.
We take a closer look at this Friday night matchup as Illinois High School Football is coming down the home stretch.
For Downers Grove North:
The 6'6" 215 pound quarterback proved that he's more than capable of manning the helm for his team despite only being a sophomore. He has a solid arm, but he runs the option a lot of times for his team. He'll need to work on his throwing touch a little more moving forward, but he's already off to a good start.
For Hinsdale Central:
Allen's older brother Jack is already starting at Michigan State
, but the buzz is that Brian might even end up being better than his brother in the long run. Brian is a tough-nosed center who has really stepped into a leadership role, despite being the only junior on an otherwise senior-laden line. He has offers from half of the Big Ten, so he should be a fun one to track the next year or so.
Bunting is going to be a tough matchup for just about anyone. At 6'7" and nearly 200 pounds, he can cover a lot of ground in not a lot of steps with some big strides, and he quite literally stands head and shoulders above the rest. If Hinsdale Central's QB can put it where only Bunting can reach it, he could have a big night.
