Surprise, Vonleh makes his choiceThe timing of Noah Vonleh's college choice was certainly a surprise.
Vonleh's actually choice, however, was not.
Tom Crean, assistant and Kenny Johnson made Vonleh, a top 100 recruit, their main priority. Crean went to New Hampton just after he moved to the 2013 class and they quickly moved to get him on campus.
Johnson built a relationship with Vonleh and his mother. In the end, that relationship played a major role in the college decision. New Hampton coach Pete Hutchins cited Johnson as one of the factors in Vonleh's decision.
"Ever since Kenny Johnson got the job they did a very thorough job of recruiting Noah," said Hutchins. "They did a great job throughout the entire process including watching him over the summer and this fall."
With the addition of Vonleh, IU now has an elite prospect in their already impressive 2013 class. Vonleh is ranked No. 8 overall in the 2013 player rankings.
IU jumps to No. 2Prior to the weekend, Indiana ranked No. 11 in the 2013 recruiting class rankings. Following the Vonleh decision, IU has jumped up to No. 2.
This gives the Hoosier's the best class in the Big Ten for the second year in a row. There isn't another Big Ten school ranked among the top 10.
