Matthews Clutch in Win

After missing the front end of a one-and-one with 10 seconds to go against Loyola up just one point, Charles Matthews made up for his miscue and sealed the game for St. Rita.

St. Rita won a low-scoring affair in Catholic League play against Loyola Academy Friday night 36-35 despite not scoring a single point in the second quarter.

In fact, the game winner, hit by senior Vic Law, came with more than three minutes to go in the game.

But the last ten seconds of the contest were exciting despite the slow progression of the rest of the game.

Sophomore Charles Matthews, after missing free throws that would have given St. Rita some extra cushion and put even more pressure on Loyola, buckled down on defense and blocked the Loyola attempt at the game-winning shot.

We caught up with Matthews, who holds an early offer from Illinois among others, to get the latest and get his take on his team's progress this year.
