Next in Line for Flyers

East St. Louis always has a number of top athletes. The next in line for the Flyers might just be linebacker Kyron Watson.

Kyron Watson of East St. Louis High School is starting to see all of his hard work pay off.

The 6'2" 225 pound linebacker has picked up five offers so far, including one most recently from Purdue.

"I've been working hard every day with my team to get better," he said. "We are progressing more and more every day."

The offers aren't a surprise to Watson, but he never expected to start picking them up so soon.

"It was surprising but it wasn't at the same time. I knew I was good enough to get offers, but I didn't know it would happen this fast," Watson said.

East St. Louis is a program with a tradition of producing college football talent. Watson understands the legacy that he's a part of.

"It's great being there," he said. "I love being around a program with a great history, and I love being the leader of my team."

Watson has had the chance to talk to some of the guys that have gone before him like Tony Pierson at Kansas, Glenn Faulkner at Kentucky, and Terry Hawthorne at Illinois.

"Terry came and talked to our whole team," he said. "He's always been a role model for me and the team."

Illinois is one of the five schools that have extended Watson an offer. Receiving the offer from the in-state program was an exciting moment for him.

He said, "I think it's a very good program and it felt really good getting that offer."

Watson has stayed busy with recruiting this spring. He has already taken a visit to Kansas and has upcoming visits to Missouri, Ohio State, Syracuse, Purdue, and this Saturday to Illinois.

Check back in early next week to get Watson's reaction to the visit.
